Despite the record setting heat wave and a cold (yes, a horrible combo), I made it out to the Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival last Saturday with my friend Alan! It was a day of hard work… eating around nine sandwiches plus drinks & snacks in over 100° F heat on Governors Island!

When you think island dining, fresh seafood is definitely on the top of your list. However, when I think of Phú Quốc, an island off the southern tip of Vietnam, I think of nước mắm, fish sauce and hạt tiêu đen, black pepper!

Mess Then Success

Originally, these started out as chocolate cupcakes awaiting a cold frosting of coconut mousse… But then the mousse never set enough to pipe on top of the cupcakes. Luckily, I had marshmallows to turn these into chocolate cupcakes with marshmallow topping and the coconut mousse to… just back to coconut mousse!

Chinese Breakfast Burrito

Chinese street food is dominated by their late night barbeque and drinking. Of course, this is balanced out by the morning street food vendors with their hangover cures. One of them being a stuffed jiān bǐng 煎饼.

A traditional dish from Northern Thailand

A traditional dish of Northern Thailand, it has crispy fried egg noodles, soaking in a yellow curry with coconut milk. Served with lime, shallots, and pickled cabbages.

Coming back to my parent’s home can be very frustrating. However, there are always the pleasant moments and activities I miss.
