Lucid Poppies

Preview of Painting

Last Sunday I was obsessively creative. I returned to a childlike state, I could not stop drawing, painting, creating — trying my best to capture everything I experience. As Matt said, I “broke myself down and started from a blank slate”, no preconceived notions, seeing the world again for the first time. I want to share this set of watercolor paintings I created that day. They are how I see poppies – straight down into them so I can smell them. Read on for more paintings.

For Tomorrow

Pablo Picasso quote, Photo & type by Emily Duong

Currently in Florida, still on a happy high from Amanda’s & Adam’s wedding. I actually snapped this photo during the start of the reception over at the gorgeous Bella Collina in Monteverde, FL. Then inspired by Julian Bialowas, via today’s Revolution. Is, I combined the photo with one of my favorite quotes by Picasso that my friend Jerlyn shared with me earlier this month. It translates to ”Leave for the morning only what you are willing to leave undone if you died.” Hope you find it inspiring & motivating! The full 1280×960 pixel image is also available.

Colors of Roseau

Pharmacy

Caribbean towns are know for their colorful facades and Dominica is no exception. Singularly, you may think these color composites were chosen by a blind man, but collectively, they help bring life to the streets. Here’s a collection of some of my favorite color combinations from the capital of Dominica, Roseau and around.

Santo Domingo Patterns

Floor Tiles In A Shop

The Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial) of Santo Domingo is full of history and the architecture shows it. There are churches with a mix of Baroque paintings, Gothic ceilings and Romanesque sculptures. Patterns are always a characteristics I look out for; they give history, ambiance, balance and are used for more practical purposes. Here are a few of my favorite from the area.

The Cake Takes A Stand

Cake Stands

One of my current projects is planning a very small DIY wedding in Tampa. There are a few complications when planning a small but bijou event. One of the issues we’ve encountered is how to make a 9″, 2-tier cake not look dull and petty. An elegant solution? Let the cake stand tall!

19th Century Handwritten Scripts

Florida Territory Letter from 1836

Recently, I had a train layover at Washington, D.C. and stopped by next door to one of my favorite and best curated (in my opinion) museums, the National Postal Museum. Looking back at the photos I took, aside from tons photos of stamps, I took plenty of photos of handwriting particularly from the 1800′s. Above is handwriting from a letter from Duncan Clinch in 1836, during the second Seminole War. See some of the photos of handwriting I took, and a round up of my favorite 19th century inspired fonts below the jump.

Found Objects: Stamps from Vietnam

Stamps from Vietnam 1970's to 1980's

Purchased over the summer while in Ho Chi Minh city. These stamps are from 1976 to 1980′s, after North and South Vietnam merged into the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The words bưu chính on all the stamps mean postal, this also denotes that the stamp is after the reunification. A few close ups after the jump.

Scrabble Sets

Leather Scrabble Pieces by Geoffrey Parker

I love my fair share of word games. Discovering new words, figuring out new strategies through competition, gaining a higher affinity with the English language. Frozen Lexicon is the most used app on my iPhone. Word Bubbles is on my browser’s bookmark bar. When I bought Bananagrams, I carried it everywhere in my purse for a few weeks (this caused some tensions with a few friends, apologies!) But my heart will always belong to Scrabble, the classic word board game is the one that started it all… its 15×15 grid… 100 tiles… and now in 29 different languages and so many different forms by an assortment of designers. Here’s a round up of some the most beautiful Scrabble sets I have ever laid my eyes on!
